Shella Record wins Hot Docs Top Ten Audience Favourite
WORLD PREMIERE
I’m proud to announce Shella Record - A Reggae Mystery, a hybrid doc, that I edited will be premiering at this year’s HotDocs Film festival! The film tells the story of Chris Flanagan, an obsessive, multitalented artist who is on the search for a lost Reggae diva. When I first met with Chris, I was immediately pulled in by his unconventional vision for the film. He was asking all the right questions and had a manner about him that I knew I could work with. It was ambitious from the start, with nearly a decade of footage and more footage coming in on a daily basis. At points we got lost in technical difficulties and the vastness of the film. But then we finally cracked the code and the film’s aesthetic and story started to work together in flow, harmoniously. THE FILM IS SPECIAL. Shot in Toronto, Jamaica, New York and LA—if you love reggae music—you’ve got to see this!!!!
UPDATE: The film premiered at Hot Docs in 2019 and sold out at Doc NYC the same year.

Shella Record - A Reggae Mystery was screened on CBC’s Documentary channel Sunday Aug 23, 2020. As editor and creative collaborator, I helped transform 6+ years of chaotic footage into an actual film all while encouraging a lot of the weird/unconventional art aspects of this doc. Here’s a pic from 2017 trying to figure out the story on break from the Trinity Square video edit suite.
